Significant Gains for Lamar December Sales Tax Revenue

The January 2018 Revenue Report from the City of Lamar, based on December sales collected in January, shows City Sales Tax collections up 19.74% and Total Sales and Use Tax collections up 25.64%. The difference in the City Sales Tax was a $69,682 gain with 2017 at $352,923 and 2018 at $422,605. The Total Sales and Use Tax was up $102,655 with 2017 at $400,435 and 2018 at $503,090. Use Tax collections were up 98.38% for a gain of $34,521 with 2017 at $35,091 and 2018 was double at $69,612.
At the start of 2018, the Year to Date figures are identical.
Taxes collected on the 12 retail trade categories for the past three Januarys (2016-2018) indicated significant growth due mostly to construction projects brought about by the August 2017 hail storm and associated repairs, plus various local business developments.
