Commissioners Note SDS Awareness Day

Dave Harbour thanked the Prowers County Commissioners for their honorary proclamation, designating March 28th as Southeastern Developmental Services Awareness Day.  Harbour said a come and go open house has been set for the 28th which will include tours, a slide show and public forum, as well as snacks and a chance to meet with staff and clients.  A silent auction has also been included during the mid-day event from 11am to 2pm at 1111 South 4th Street in Lamar.

He noted the deadline for applications to the 8th Annual Walter Ely Scholarship is Monday, April 9th at noon and applications are available at their headquarters or website at and submissions may be emailed to  “We’ve had some extra donations this year, so the scholarship in memory of Walter is up to $1,500,” he told the county commissioners during their February 21st meeting. He added that although one house is temporarily closed, SDS now has 56 adults and 51 children in the program.
