High Plains Temporarily Closes the Adult Health Center-Press Release

Recently, High Plains Community Health Center began to see structural concerns at its Adult Health Center located at 2221 Wellness Way in Lamar. These building concerns prompted High Plains Leadership Staff and Board of Directors to hire an independent contractor that specializes in structural engineering to survey the damage to the building.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018 the High Plains structural engineer conducted an inspection of the Adult Health Center building and identified all of the structural concerns after a full examination of the building. Following the initial report, the City of Lamar also reviewed the structural issues and collectively High Plains and the City agreed that immediate action needed to be taken.  In the interest of public safety, High Plains agreed that the building should be closed, effective immediately.  High Plains is currently in the process of gathering the necessary information to move forward with the repairs for this building.

Tim Bewley, PA-C, Brian Michaud, DO, and Sharon Headrick, LCSW, were moved from the Adult Health Building in order to continue to see patients. The following relocations have been completed:

  • Tim Bewley, PA-C, will continue to see patients Monday through Thursday from 8AM to 7PM at the Main Clinic.
  • Dr. Brian Michaud will continue to see patients Tuesday through Friday from 8AM to 7PM at the Main Clinic.
  • Sharon Headrick, LCSW, will also be located at the Main Clinic and sees patients from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday.
  • To accommodate the growing employee population in the Main Clinic, our newest Behavioral Health Clinician, Melanie Martinez, LPC, has moved to the Wiley Clinic.

At this time, any meetings or events that were scheduled for the Adult Health Center Conference Room are being relocated as well. Main points of contact for these meetings will be addressed when a new meeting location has been established.  This includes High Plains’ participation in the Weigh and Win initiative.  The mobile scale will now be located in the Main Clinic Conference Room on Tuesdays.

High Plains continues to offer medical, dental, and behavioral health services through a variety of well-coordinated services. Same-day appointments, walk-in appointments, and all of the other innovative services that High Plains offers continue to be fully functioning.

Thank you to all the patients, our wonderful staff, and the community who have been flexible with us as we have had to make adjustments to maintain the safety of our employees and patients. We look forward to continuing to serve you as your Patient Centered Medical Home.  Please visit our website at www.highplainschc.net or call 719.336.0261 to learn more about our clinics.
