Trailer Fire Under Investigation

Back Bedroom of the Trailer

Lamar Fire Chief, Jeremy Burkhart, told The Prowers Journal, the cause of Monday’s trailer house fire is still under investigation, “We’re meeting with the Lamar Police Department to determine the cause of yesterday’s fire,” he explained, adding that the fire developed in the back bedroom of the trailer. There were no injuries in the blaze and the trailer was unoccupied as the time the fire began around 1pm on December 18th.

The trailer was difficult to reach, according to Burkhart, “We sent out two ladder trucks, two fire trucks and two ambulances, plus our rescue vehicle, but the location was hard to reach,” he said. The trailer was located off the intersection of North 11th and Logan Street in Lamar, adjacent to the southeast corner of Escondido Park.  Crews had to work their way around a chain link fence in the backyard, maneuvering the fire hose over the fence to reach the flames coming from the rear bedroom while another crew brought hoses into the front entrance on the other side of the structure.

The first call for a response was made around 1pm and Chief Burkhart said his department cleared the scene at approximately 3:30pm.
