Funeral Services for lifelong Las Animas, Colorado resident, Kitty Ann Long, will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Pastor Steve Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9am until 4pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Horber Funeral Chapel.
Kitty Ann (Roberts) Long was born on November 3, 1925 in rural Las Animas, Colorado to Alva Roy and Zora Viola (Robbins) Roberts. She passed away on December 27, 2017 at Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 92.
Kitty Ann proudly served as the Mayor of Las Animas, on City Council and as the Bent County Assessor. She was heavily involved for years in youth activities in the Las Animas schools and with the local youth baseball leagues, including Babe Ruth & Connie Mack. She was honored as a Beautiful Activist of Colorado, was appointed to the Colorado Commission on the Status of Women, and longtime member of the Business & Professional Women’s club, VFW Post 2411 Ladies Auxiliary and proud member of the BCHS class of 1943.
Kitty Ann is survived by her daughter, Karen Long of Canon City, Colorado; grandson, Michael Elio of Arvada, Colorado; several first cousins; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charley Leonard Long; daughters, Kay Elio and Vicki Long; son-in-law, Gary Elio; mother-in-law, Birdie Long; father-in-law, Harry Long; siblings, Hazel Spady, Melvin “Bub” Roberts, Evelyn Blackburn, and an infant sister, Mildred Roberts.
