The Lamar Eagles Lodge paid their respects and a ‘thank you’ to area veterans with a complimentary lunch for all who served in the armed forces on Friday, November 11th. Veteran’s Day, which was earlier called Armistice Day, celebrated the signing of a peace treaty marking the end of World War 1. The treaty was signed in 1918 and officially became Veteran’s Day in the United States in 1954.
Following a presentation of the American Legion Honor Guard at the Lamar Eagles, area residents and veterans were invited to their hamburger and hot dog luncheon which was provided free to veterans. The meal included grills burgers and quarter-pound hot dogs as well as a number of salads, casseroles and pot-luck offerings from the Eagles Auxiliary members.
Prior to the dinner, the American Legion Honor Guard held a 21 gun salute at the Eagles parking lot.
