Graveside Services for Gladys Waymire will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Diane Hutson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Horber Funeral Chapel.
Sophie Gladys Waymire, known to most as Gladys, was born on April 29, 1920 to Oscar and Hallie Warner in Fairview, Oklahoma. She passed away on September 21, 2017 in Montesano, Washington at the age of 97.
Gladys moved to Las Animas when she was about 12 years. She attended the Rixie School and graduated from Las Animas High School in 1939. After graduation, Gladys moved to Hutchison, Kansas to attend business school She married Elmer Waymire in March of 1944. Gladys and Elmer moved to California where they eventually opened their own dry cleaning business. In 1968, Gladys moved to Lompoc, California. Gladys moved back to Las Animas in 1972 and drove a school bus for a number of years then worked at Fort Lyon until her retirement. In 1995, Gladys moved to Washington. She lived in Montesano, Washington until the time of her death.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Debora (Frank) Wood; grandchildren, Brian Baldwin and Jaime (Terry) Girard; great grandchildren, Brayden and Hailey Girard, all of Montesano, Washington; brother, Dean (Rita Mae) Warner of Clovis, New Mexico; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Waymire; son, Ronald Waymire Sr.; grandson, Ronald Waymire Jr.; sisters, Naoma and Florence; and brothers, Jack and Marion.
