Lamar Retail Sales Tax Notes a Drop

March Sales and Use tax collected in April by the City of Lamar showed a decrease of 1.36%, or $3,885.89 when compared to the same period in 2016. Collections in 2017 were $281,626.93 and $285,512.82 for last year.  Total Sales and Use Tax collections had a drop of 2.93% for a decrease of $9,262.08.  Collections in 2017 were $306,559.82 and were $315,821.90 for 2016.

Year to date revenue shows a drop of 1.42% for a drop of $15,859.11 from 2016 to this year. 2017 collections for city sales tax was $1,100,596.16 compared to 2016 at this time of $1,116,455.27.  Total Sales and Use Tax collections were off 3.99% which translated to a drop of $50,730.33.  2017 collections were $1,219,373.30 compared to 2016 of $1,270,103.63.

The following are the collections in 12 retail categories comparing January through April for 2015-2017. There were gains in Apparel/Department Stores, while most categories posted a loss.
