This year will mark the 7^th anniversary of the Walter Ely Memorial Scholarship, hosted by Southeastern Developmental Services in Lamar.  April 17, 2017 is the deadline for applications which are available at the SDS offices at 1111 South 4^th in Lamar or at www.sdsccb.org

The applications may be mailed to the SDS Board of Directors at PO Box 328 in Lamar, hand-delivered to the above address or emailed at kengsberg@sdsccb.com.  An award of $1,000 will be made later in the year.  The application requests, among other areas, information on a student’s career or education goals, experience with someone who is intellectually and/or developmentally disabled and a brief description of your financial need or additional information the applicant wants to share.

Walter Ely, who passed away in 2010, could be seen for years, collecting recyclable aluminum cans throughout Lamar. Always friendly and almost always smiling, he was known to visit many businesses and homes along his daily route.  Funds from the can collections are applied to the annual scholarship.
