Prowers County Sheriff’s Office Confiscates Half a Million in Marijuana Bust

On the early morning of Thursday, December 1st, 2016, The Prowers County Sheriff’s Office was able to contact a semi-tractor trailer for a traffic infraction at approximately mile marker 58 on Hwy 287, south of Lamar.

After issuing a written warning for the infraction, the driver gave consent for a search. The Sheriff’s Office was able to seize eleven bundles, weighing approximately 180 lbs. pounds, of marijuana intermixed with the load of onions in the trailer. Upon further investigation, we obtained information concerning the marijuana. The information will be forwarded to the respective agencies. The matter is still under investigation. The Baca County Sheriff’s Office was able to send a deputy to assist in the search.

The street value of the marijuana in Colorado fluctuates but, based on low end prices of around $192 per ounce; it is estimated to be about $550,000.00 worth of Marijuana. Any arrests that may result, it should be noted, all subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
