Funeral services for Lamar, CO resident, Viola “Vi” Miller will be at 10:00 on July 28, 2016 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lamar, CO. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Viola M. Miller was born on September 13, 1933 in Kit Carson, CO to Tobias and Frieda (Born) Appel. She passed away on July 12, 2016 at Collier Hospice in Wheat Ridge, CO at the age of 82.
Vi has worn may hats throughout her life from serving many of us at the old Maxwell House and then at the Main Café in later years. She worked in the Eisenhower’s Department Store and made the custom order draperies for Eisenhower’s that are hanging in many of the homes in Lamar and the surrounding area. She also worked for J.C. Penney hanging the draperies purchased there. Vi and her late husband Walt jointly owned Walt’s Heating & Air Conditioning and The Sewing Basket.
Vi belonged to “Daubers”, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Quilt Club. In 1994 Walt and Vi started their passion for RVing and traveling. They wintered in California and took many trips including but not limited to South Dakota, Washington/Oregon, Branson, Nashville, the East Coast and Niagara Falls, Hawaii, a cruise to the Bahamas, and Alaska for their 60th wedding anniversary.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and ceramics, but her passions were her oil paintings and quilting.
Viola is survived by her children, Cathy (John) Turley of Briggsdale, CO, Larry Miller of Pueblo, CO, Curtis Miller of Lamar, CO, and Pamela Knespel of Greeley, CO; siblings, Vernon (Ruby) Appel, David (Mona) Appel, Betty Bean, Johnnie (Joyce) Appel, Edna (Robert) Oeltjen, and Harry Gene (Linda) Appel; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
