Patricia Anne Steward…June 2, 1933 – July 16, 2016



Funeral services for Patricia Waldrip will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar, Colorado. Reverend Barbara Johns-Schleicher will officiate.

Patricia Anne (Steward) Waldrip was born on June 2, 1933 in her grandparents’ living room in Vega, Texas to Earl and Annabelle (Smith) Steward. She died on July 16, 2016 at Prowers Medical Center in Lamar, Colorado at the age of 83 with her loving family by her side.

Patricia moved to Colorado in 1940 to a farm north of Hartman. She would go to school on the bus to Towner. In 1947, she moved to Lamar. She had four brothers, ages 1 to 11. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1951 and attended one year at Lamar Community College. She then married William (Bill) Waldrip in the Methodist Church in July 1952. Born to this union were two daughters and one son. Liz was born in Lamar, Colorado in 1955, Randy was born in La Junta, Colorado in 1957, and Cindy was born in Dalhart, Texas in 1961. They moved to Aurora, Colorado and then moved to Broomfield, Colorado in 1971 and lived there until 1998, where they found themselves back in Lamar in June 1998. In December of 1996, Bill had a stroke and never fully recovered. He passed in February 1999. Patricia was a Girl Scout Leader for twenty eight years for all levels. She was a social studies teacher for many years, Vocational Bible School Director, and a Childcare provider for fifteen years. She also worked for traveling. She loved children and has two beautiful granddaughters. Family was very important to her. She started family reunions in 1985 on both sides of her family every year, and at a young age, she took care of her two youngest brothers when their mother passed.

Patricia is survived by her children; Elizabeth A. Waldrip of Lamar, CO, Randy A. (Lori) Waldrip of Northglenn, CO, and Cindy A. Waldrip of Lamar, CO; siblings, L. Mike Steward, Lawrence E. (Janet) Steward, Karen Baird, David (Gyla) Conklin, Wally (Haydee) Waldrip; two grandchildren, Sara Jane Waldrip and Nicole Lee Waldrip; one great grandchild, Noah Henry Waldrip; sister-in-law, Shirley Steward;  many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband; William A. Waldrip; parents; Earl and Annabelle Steward; brothers, Richard B. Steward and John R. Steward; twin sisters; infant brother; sisters-in-law, Sharon Ann Steward and Suzanne Steward; her in-laws, Ralph and Nancy Mae Waldrip, Georgie (Ernie) Kepley, Laura (Alfred) Nilges, Gene (Margaret) Waldrip, Jane Waldrip.
