Florencio Gonzales Cortez…November 8, 1954 – July 5, 2016

Funeral services for Florencio Gonzalez Cortez will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Cliff Smart will officiate. Interment will follow at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado.

Florencio was born on November 8, 1954 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Manuel Sandoval and Antonia (Gonzalez) Cortez and passed away on July 5, 2016 in Aurora, Colorado at the age of 61.

Florencio was a very hard-working man who never lost focus on what really mattered to him, his family. While in California, Florencio was always working hard to provide for his family while working for a major pool supply and cleaning company as well as a Fiberglass company. While in Colorado, Florencio’s hands helped construction work on the Bent County Correctional Facility, as well as work hard as farm maintenance supervisor for the Las Animas hog farms.

Florencio always had a warm and loving personality to love others unconditionally and teach those that looked up to him to work-hard, and fight to get the job accomplished correctly. His wisdom and selfless care for others will always and forever be his everlasting legacy.

Florencio is survived by his wife, Sally J. (Valdez) Cortez; his mother, Antonia Gonzalez Cortez; children, Florencio Cortez, Jr., Cecilia I. Cortez, Susana G. (Cortez) Aguilar, Rebecca I. (Cortez) Pena, Albert L. Cortez, and Hector J. Cortez; grandchildren, Jesus Lopez, Samuel Lopez, Francisco “Pancho” Lopez, Socorro “Coco” Cortez, Letticia Cortez, Alyssandra Guerrero, Jeweliana Cortez, Kathalina Cortez, Susan Cortez, Emiliano Pena, Adriano Pena, Isabel Lopez, Zoey Lopez; six brothers and five sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Sandoval Cortez; and daughter, Lucha Victoria Cortez.
