A Graveside Memorial Service for Elsie Moreland will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in the Elder Chapel at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Diane Hutson will officiate.
Elsie was born on November 4, 1930 in Johnstown, Colorado to Francisco and Juanita (Bustamontez) Martinez and passed away on July 25, 2016 in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 85.
Elsie wore many hats throughout her life, working as a housekeeper, custodian, and homemaker, in Colorado, California, and New Mexico. In 1991, she returned to her home state to retire, settling in Las Animas. All who knew her over the years, also knew her love of Mexican music and singing and dancing. She also enjoyed cooking a variety of Mexican dishes. The most treasured hats that Elsie ever wore, were those of wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Louis (Lucy) Alvarez Jr. of Lawton, Oklahoma, Janet Alvarez of Las Animas, Colorado, Rick (Louise) Alvarez of Pueblo, Colorado, and Roman Alvarez of Las Animas, Colorado; sister, Josie Marquez of Michigan; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Juanita (Bustamontez) Martinez; infant daughter, Juanita Moreland; six brothers; three sisters; and ex-husbands, Louis Alvarez Sr. and George Moreland.
