A Memorial Service will be held for Dale Hays on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Ken West will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Wiley Cemetery in Wiley Colorado.
Dale Byron Hays was born on January 11, 1941 to Byron R. and Lillian V. (Erickson) Hays in Lamar, Colorado. He passed away on June 28, 2016 in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 75.
Dale attended school in Wiley, Colorado, where he participated in football, basketball, and track. After graduating in 1959, he attended college at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He then went to work for Dillon and Hays Construction. Upon his father’s passing in 1963, Dale became a partner in the company. After the dissolution of the company, he continued to operate as Hays Backhoe Service, retiring in 2012. Dale owned and operated Hays Trailer Park up until his death. Dale was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Las Animas Trojans.
The family asks that in honor of Dale’s admiration for the Denver Broncos, those in attendance at his service wear the colors of orange and blue, and dress informally.
Dale is survived by his wife, Karen Sue “Kaye” DeMaio-Hays, of Las Animas, Colorado; son, Stacy Hays (Lori Ruth) of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Evelyn (Sam) Skiles of Bennett, Colorado; sister-in-law, Grace Hays of Wiley, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Lillian Hays; brother, Eldon Hays; and his first wife, Diane Ferron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice, in care of Horber Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 431 Las Animas, CO 81054.
