City Sales Tax Revenue Shows Steady, Modest Gain

The City of Lamar May Sales and Use Tax collected in June showed a 3.37% climb compared to the same month last year for an increase of $8,834.77 and Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 1.65% for an increase of $4,713.70 for the same period. Taxes collected for the month were $290,173.92 compared to 2015’s figure of $285,460.22.
Total Taxes collected, year to date were up 4.87% for a gain of $85,674.55 over 2015 with collections year to date for 2016 at $1,843,576.16 and for 2015 at $1,757,901.61.
Tax revenues for the 12 retail sales categories over a three year span, January to June, showed a decline in Auto Parts/Vehicle Repair and Apparel and Department Stores, while gains were posted for Restaurants, Motels and Grocery Stores.
