Barbara Joanne Devie, 63, died at her home in Las Animas July 8.
She was born June 9, 1953, in La Junta, the daughter of James Blakemore Flowers Jr. and Thelma (Mogilewicz) Flowers.
She was raised on a farm in Kim, CO and attended Kim schools, graduating from Kim High School in 1971. She graduated from Otero Junior College then went on to the University of Southern Colorado where she received her bachelor’s degree.
She married Don Devie Oct. 8, 1972, in Kim Colorado. They were happily married for 43 years.
When her children were young, she was a homemaker and parent educator for Wildwood Services and served as director for a short time. She loved being a 4-H leader for many years. and taught for the Las Animas School District for 23 years before illness required her to retire. Not only was Barb a teacher, she was also a leader on every level. She touched the lives of many students parents and friends in the Bent and Las Animas county area. Barb was well liked in the community and was always ready to help in any way she could. She was passionate about teaching, and loved being a cooking and sewing leader for the 4-.H Barb was a member of the Phi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma.
She is survived by her husband, Don Devie; two daughters, Alexia (Lexie) Devie of Las Animas, CO and Tekla (Joe) Tafoya of Wray, CO; one son, James (Blake) Blakemore Devie of Las Animas, CO; a sister, Lynn (Alan) Smith of Fallon, NV; two nieces, Miranda Ricken-Haffner of Fallon, NV. and Rileigh Ricken of Weatherford, OK; three grandsons, Douglas, Johnathan, and James Shearer. She had many numerous other family and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Thelma Flowers and three sisters, Hedy Louise Flowers (Glaspie), Bonnie Jean (Flowers) Stone and Tamara Flowers.
A Celebration of Life dinner will be held on Saturday July 16, 2016 at 11:00 at the Las Animas High School Cafeteria, and a Memorial service will be held at the Kim Baptist Church on Saturday July 23, 2016 @ 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bent County Ambulance, the Las Animas School District, or the Kim Fire and Ambulance.
