The 41st Annual Wiley Hay Days will be celebrated June 17-18 this year and will feature a host of activities including the royalty for 2016, Lawrence and Tressa Brase.  Lawrence attended Wiley School from the first through the tenth grade.  His family farmed in the May Valley area.  Tressa lived in Lamar.  Her mother started the first kindergarten in Lamar.  In 1964, during their senior years, the couple was named Mr. and Miss Lamar High School.

They attended different colleges, but reunited when Tressa returned to student teach at Washington Elementary School. They were married in 1969.  Lawrence taught vocational agtriculture and was a banker in Calhan and Limon for 15 years and eventually became an independent insurance agent for 26 years in Lamar.

Tressa taught first grade before becoming a mom at home with two daughters, Taya and Kimber for 18 years. She served on the Wiley School Board before returning to her teaching career and retired in 2012 after a 30 year career in education.

Lawrence and Tressa have loved living in the Wiley area near family and friends. They hope to continue serving others through their church and community organizations.  Thank you for the honor of being Wiley Hay Days King and Queen!

Events begin at 6pm on Friday with the Janea Aguilera Memorial softball games. The Wiley Lions will host a bingo night and the Wiley King and Queen will be crowned prior to the games at 7pm.  Kid’s game night begins at that time at the fireplace room at the community center.

Saturday promises a full slate of activities, ranging from the Wiley Car Show from 9am to 2pm on Main and 3rd Streets, the parade begins at 10am and the kid’s carnival follows from 10:30 to noon.  Be sure to turn out for the annual sloppy joe, Lion’s Club lunch from 11:30 to 1pm.  Other events include the 1:30pm ice cream social, the Legacy Bank duck race at 1:45pm and the ping pong ball drop at 2:30pm by the town hall.  The Wiley Fire Department hosts a ‘fireman’s feed at 5:30pm at the Main Street Park and a dance featuring the music of Classic Country will run from 7pm to 11pm also on Main Street.
