Memorial Services for Harley Allen Benson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday June 24, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Mark Cloer will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Harley was born on September 18, 1992 to Wendell J. Benson and Cheryl (Waring) Cunningham in Tucson, Arizona and passed away on June 18, 2016 in Hasty, Colorado at the age of 23.
Harley graduated from Las Animas High School in 2011 and received his Associates Degree in Applied Science from Otero Junior College in 2014. Harley was full of life. He had the courage to take and love life as it came. He loved the outdoors of Southeast Colorado and hunting. He was a loving son and brother. Harley was admired and respected by everyone who met him. He contributed to the rebuild of the Royal Gorge Bridge Park after the fire. He continued in the construction field with LPR as an iron worker. Harley was passionate about work, and proved to have a strong work ethic. If Harley touched your life you would know his kind-hearted, hard-working, honorable personality.
Harley is survived by his parents, Wendell Benson and Cheryl Cunningham both of Canon City, Colorado; sisters, Rosa (Stanley) Gonzalez-Mashek of Aurora, Colorado, Beci (Abraham) Oliveto of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Acacia Benson and Sarah Benson both of Canon City, Colorado; Fiance’, Savannah Grasmick and daughter, Charlie Elizabeth Grasmick both of Lamar, Colorado; and grandparents, Bonnie Failing and Jack Waring of Las Animas, Colorado; aunts, Susan Waring (Jack Miller), Darlene Mahlam, Bea Laubach; uncles, Jay (Billie) Waring, Ray Waring, and Harley Benson.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry and Dorothy Benson; cousin, Josh Gardner; and two aunts, Jen Clariday and Wanda Eliason.
