Memorial Services for David D. Whattler will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Ken West will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado.
David Whattler was born on December 20, 1934 in Conawanga, New York to Don and Margaret (Hollister) Whattler. He passed away on June 9, 2016 in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 81.
David worked at Fort Lyon VA Hospital as an Occupational Therapist Assistant for 17 years where he enjoyed and mastered the art of leather carving.
From its inception till 1996 David was instrumental in the maintenance of the Las Animas Golf Course. He also enjoyed his time with coworkers and customers at Wal-Mart in La Junta, Colorado where he put together furniture and bicycles.
David enjoyed spending time with his extensive family of 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Beach) Whattler of Las Animas, Colorado; children, Rudy (Carol) Estrada of Las Animas, Colorado, Lyndell (Greg) Starkovich of Pueblo West Colorado, Barbara Estrada of Cherokee, Oklahoma, Curtis (Mary) Estrada of Illinois, Nadine Estrada of Commerce City, Colorado, Annette Capwell of Las Animas, Colorado, Donald (Cary) Whattler of Las Animas, Colorado; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Whattler also of Las Animas, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Margaret (Hollister) Whattler, Ken and Norma Terboss; son, David “Randy” Whattler; and sister, Zada Kaye.
