The Lamar RE-2 School Board met on December 8, 2025. Not present at the meeting was Director Travis Hall as well as student board member Giada Nieschburg.
Principal updates were presented by Brandon Adamson, Lamar Middle School, and Greg Eddy, Lamar High School. Adamson reported that the boys basketball teams had a total of 59 athletes and that all four teams are doing well. The A team is undefeated to date, the B team has a 9-3 record and the C/D team is 6-5. The girls wrestling season ends soon and competed very well at the recent Lamar tournament. Thirty-four girls were on the original roster, but due to injuries, they are down to 28. Their last meet is next week. The girls basketball season begins soon, and they are hoping to have the girls practice over the Christmas break since the first game is shortly after school resumes. Boys wrestling begins after the Christmas break. Representatives of the NASA-affiliated Mobile Earth + Space Observatory (MESO) program will be visiting and teaching Lamar fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students for six days in the spring, which the school is very excited about. A LMS student was recently selected for the state honor choir, which Adamson believes is a first for the school.
Principal Eddy reported that the school’s Knowledge Bowl team is currently undefeated. There are upcoming concerts for the school’s concert band and the Noteables. The school’s DECA team fared very well at districts, with 12 students qualifying for the state competition. There were 27 athletes on the boys basketball team and 20 on the girls basketball team this year. Both teams did exceptionally well at the recent Thunder Throwdown tournament, with the boys team taking first place, defeating University School by a score of 46-44 and the girls team taking fourth place. The girls wrestling program has 26 participants and the boys team has 37. The school’s cheer team competes at state this Friday.
The board voted unanimously on several issues. They approved a second reading of the district’s policy GDG regarding part-time and substitute support staff employment. Two appointments for the open Director seats were approved for Robbie Adamson, District A, and Jill Bellomy, District E. They will be sworn in during the January meeting. Nine students will graduate in December, 2025 and receive diplomas. A travel study trip for the Parkview GT students was approved. They will travel to the Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs on December 14. Two resignations, eight hirings, and two transfers were approved.
Superintendent Dr. Chad Krug gave the board some information regarding the Pine Cove Security Software bid which was approved at the meeting. The software includes an email filter which will prevent hacking attempts. He also explained some of the district’s safety improvements. Each academic campus in the district now has updated exterior security cameras and front-door access control systems. This enhancement allows administrators to unlock doors remotely from their phones and staff to manage entry using an iPad-based access station to help with visitor management. All video footage is stored securely in the cloud for 30 days, with the ability to archive recordings permanently when needed. The system also includes facial recognition so that staff can be alerted if a person previously flagged as a potential threat attempts entry. Next semester, the district will implement a planned integration of law enforcement access, which will further enhance emergency response and collaboration with the schools.
The next meeting for the RE-2 Board will be Monday, January 12 at 5:30 pm.
