150/250 DRONE SHOW TO CELEBRATE LAMAR’S 140
The Stories in the Sky statewide drone show series is coming to Southeast Colorado to celebrate Lamar’s 140th Birthday! Sponsored by Chevron, Tallgrass and UCHealth, the Colorado Tourism Office opened the opportunity to communities across the state. Lamar’s Welcome Center Manager Leslie Stagner and City of Lamar Main Street staff lobbied for Lamar to host a show because of Lamar’s 140th Birthday. Lamar’s drone show will occur on Saturday, May 16th at approximately 8:30 pm as a capstone for Lamar Days events.
The drone base operations will be adjacent to the south parking lot at the Sand & Sage Fairgrounds and will require closure of the south entrance to the fairgrounds on Saddle Club Drive. Viewers may take the north Saddle Club Drive entrance to access the Softball/Baseball Fourplex parking lot. Since there will be a 45-degree premium viewing area (see Sight Lines_Overview), the best viewing locations include:
Lamar Ballfields, including Green and Yellow Softball Fields
Fourplex parking lot
Tractor Supply parking lot
Savage Boulevard from Main Street to 9th Street
View #1 offers a front-viewing opportunity, while in the View #2 and #3 area, the show will have more of
a “side view” appearance.
With production by Brightflight Drone Shows, hundreds of synchronized drones provide elaborate
animations in the skies above. The show celebrates Colorado and has been partially customized to
Lamar’s heritage.
Stories in the Sky (https://www.historycolorado.org/colorado-150/initiative-stories-in-the-sky) is a
statewide series that kicked off Sept. 27 at the University of Colorado football game in Boulder and will
travel across the state, from the Eastern Plains to the Western Slope.
The event will also simulcast music synchronize to the drone show. On the day of the show, the display
will transition into a live countdown clock. As soon as it hits zero, the music will begin playing in perfect
sync with the drones. Below is the link to the music app, which allows spectators to listen to the
synchronized soundtrack during the drone show. I have also attached a QR code that can be easily
shared in your event promotions. The app is very user-friendly: once the web application is opened, the
music automatically downloads to the user’s phone.

The show also commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence and the 150th
anniversary of statehood for Colorado, the Centennial State. It is a partnership between the America
250-Colorado 150 Commission, Colorado Tourism Office and Visit Denver, and is built on two major
programs working in concert through the end of 2026.
In a news release for the project, Dick Monfort, America 250-Colorado 150 Commissioner and CEO of
the Colorado Rockies baseball team, noted that the show is a family-friendly way to celebrate the
significant national and state anniversaries and to connect Colorado communities. “They’ll inspire pride
in Colorado and the United States as we mark these milestones while offering a modern, jaw-dropping
spectacle,” Monfort explained.
Stories in the Sky features sponsorship by Chevron, Tallgrass and UCHealth. Tallgrass CEO Gary Watkins
said he expects the drone show will “bring our communities closer, celebrating the values we share as
Coloradans. As a Colorado native and lifelong resident, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our
state’s 150th birthday.”
The drone show schedule and all statewide events by the America 250-Colorado 150 Commission, are
