American Legion Post 71 planning to install crosses at local cemeteries
Barbara Crimond | May 04, 2026 | Comments 0
The American Legion Post 71 is organizing a program to install white crosses in Fairmount and Riverside cemeteries for all veterans. The purpose of these crosses is to be able to easily identify a Veteran’s grave that is not in the Veteran’s Section at Fairmount Cemetery. This will assist the volunteers in placing American flags on Memorial Day and other appropriate occasions.
All crosses are free of charge to families, but the American Legion needs permission to be able to install them. This is just the beginning of the process, so it will take time to have the crosses made and installed.
The following form can be picked up at Peacock funeral Home at 209 S. 4th Street or at the Lamar Community Building. After being filled out, the forms should be returned to Peacock Funeral Home, who is assisting the American Legion in this project.
