A Memorial Service for Sally Cortez will be held at Wesleyan Fellowship Church (formerly United Methodist Church) in Las Animas, Colorado on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Per Sally’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
Sally Joan (Valdez) Cortez was born on July 9, 1954 in La Junta, Colorado to Jimmie and Maria (Madrid) Valdez. She passed away at her home in Las Animas, Colorado on February 19, 2026 at the age of 71.
Sally is survived by her children, Florencio Jr. (Andrea) Cortez of Pueblo, Colorado, Cecilia Cortez of Falcon, Colorado, Susana Aguilar of Las Animas, Colorado, Rebecca (Michael) Pena of La Junta, Colorado, Albert (Makayla) Cortez of Las Animas, Colorado, and Hector (Valerie) Cortez of Greeley, Colorado; 22 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Jimmy (Carmen) Valdez of Pueblo, Colorado, Joseph (Tristin) Valdez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dicky Valdez of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ricky Valdez of Denver, Colorado, Dino Valdez of La Junta, Colorado, Randy (Joslyn) Valdez of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Diana Archuleta of Las Vegas, Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Florencio Cortez; daughter, Lucha Victoria Cortez; and sisters, Barbara Almanza and Patricia Lopez.
