Ron Cook Seeking Re-Election for Prowers County Commissioner District #2

Ron Cook, District 2 Prowers County Commissioner

Prowers County District 2 lies in the northwest corner of Prowers County and generally encompasses citizens living in the rural area of northwest Prowers County and citizens living in the west half of the Town of Bristol, the north one-third of the City of Lamar, and all of the Town of Wiley. It has been my honor to serve as the Commissioner for Prowers County District 2, and I am announcing my candidacy for re-election for Prowers County District 2 in the upcoming November 3, 2026 Election.

I have had the good fortune over the years to work with Commissioners, Prowers County Elected Officials, Prowers County Administration, Prowers County Department Directors and Prowers County Employees who strive to make Prowers County a positive and safe community in which to live and raise a family. The current Board of Commissioners maintains the well-being of the citizens of Prowers County as a top priority in our deliberations and decisions.

Prowers County currently has a county workforce of over 250 employees – which 75 are jobs paid for by the State of Colorado, but managed locally. The State-funded jobs located in Prowers County are jobs for Prowers County citizens paid for by the State of Colorado, without draining Prowers County funds. Along with Commissioners Roger Stagner and Ty Harmon, one of my priorities is to not only maintain the current county jobs, but to expand job opportunities offered by Prowers County and businesses in Prowers County at the lowest cost of Prowers County tax dollars. My re-election would provide continuity in maintaining the current Prowers County workforce and determination to attract more job opportunities not only for Prowers County but also for businesses in Prowers County.

It is critical that Economic Development continue to be foremost on the agenda for the Prowers County Commissioners through partnerships with Prowers Economic Prosperity (PEP) and other agencies and associations focusing on economic development and attracting businesses and jobs to Prowers County. In my tenure as a Prowers County Commissioner, there have been several economic development entities. Prowers Economic Prosperity has been the most productive economic development vehicle for Prowers County and the municipalities in Prowers County so far.

Another priority of the Commissioners of Prowers County is to respect the private property rights of Prowers County citizens and businesses, while balancing the respect of private property rights with a co-occurring priority of protecting all citizens’ property from harm. In my tenure as a Commissioner and with the current Board of County Commissioners it has been the goal of Prowers County to prioritize service to Prowers County citizens and businesses when they apply for permits, assistance and services from Prowers County.

It is vital that the Commissioners of Prowers County continue to try to influence legislation for outcomes favorable for Prowers County and its citizens on subjects that include water, highways, housing and economic assistance from the State. Prowers County does this by having a Commissioner on the Board of Colorado Counties, Inc., which is a non-profit membership association that supports county commissioners, while fostering collaboration on common issues.

It is also important that housing continue to be foremost on the agenda for Prowers County through its partnership with SECED which leveraged Prowers County’s funds to construct and maintain houses in Prowers County and through the creation of the Southern Regional Housing Authority to foster more housing opportunities in Prowers County.

I would like to continue in my role as Prowers County Commissioner which currently includes, but is not limited to, my service as a member of the governing board of CCI, Inc., as chairman of PEP, and as chairman of the governing board of SECED. Prowers County has developed influence with the region and State that I would like to see the influence continue. It has been gratifying for me to represent Prowers County through service on boards which are so vital to the growth of Prowers County and to the health and well-being of Prowers County citizens. I would like to continue to serve Prowers County citizens through re-election as your District 2 Prowers County Commissioner.

I’m asking for your support and vote to have the honor of being able to continue to serve Prowers County citizens as the District 2 Commissioner and to work with Commissioner Roger Stagner and Commissioner Ty Harmon to enhance and protect the lives and rights of Prowers County citizens.

Thank you,

Ron Cook
