Prowers Economic Prosperity welcomes Brent Bates as new Project Assistant

Prowers Economic Prosperity (PEP) is proud to announce the addition of Brent Bates to its team as  Project Assistant, effective June 2nd. In this role, Bates will support Executive Director Tallie Harmon in advancing PEP’s mission through business attraction and retention, membership growth, and the identification of economic development opportunities throughout Prowers County.

A lifelong resident of Lamar, Brent Bates brings a strong background in civic engagement, public communication, and strategic development. He currently serves as the Ward 1 Representative on Lamar City Council and is actively involved in numerous local boards and committees. Bates also holds the position of President at the Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative, underscoring his deep commitment to community service.

Having spent much of his career in sales across the restaurant, retail, and manufacturing sectors, Bates brings a unique skill set to PEP. His ability to connect with people and promote shared vision is instrumental in building strong relationships with both private and public stakeholders. His experience in government adds depth to his understanding of fiscal responsibility, grant processes, and collaborative problem-solving.

“Having Brent join the PEP team just makes sense,” said Executive Director Tallie Harmon. “He’s already been doing so much to move this community forward, and now we get to channel that passion and momentum into our shared mission. His commitment to Prowers County is inspiring, and I’m genuinely excited about the impact we’re going to make together.

Bates echoed the enthusiasm: “Joining PEP feels like a natural extension of the work I’ve already been doing to help move the needle in Prowers County. As someone who was born and raised in Lamar and made a conscious decision to come back and serve, I care deeply about the future of this region. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves, build strong partnerships, and help create real opportunities for the people and places that make Prowers County so special.”

As Project Assistant, Bates will play a key role in supporting PEP’s economic development initiatives and fostering meaningful collaboration throughout the county.
