Francisco “Frank” M. Frausto…October 10, 1936 – November 30, 2020

Francisco “Frank” M. Frausto was born on October 10, 1936, to Espiridion and Gregoria (Martinez) Frausto in Las Animas, CO. He passed away on November 30, 2020, at UC Health Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 84.

Frank was a man devoted to his faith, family, friends, and his community. He worked hard his entire life, first as a farm laborer in his teens before moving to a construction/retail position at Gardner Lumber Company, until a fire at this business forced him to change his career path. Never a man to just give up, he instead worked at positions for the Las Animas School District and ended his many working years when he retired from Ft. Lyon VA Medical Center.

Even though he was officially retired, Frank never stopped working and became more involved in his community where he was a GATS van driver, volunteered at the public library, and helped with the monthly commodity distributions. He instilled in his children his steadfast work ethic; never once changing his belief that “you always do your best at whatever you do”. This belief is what pushed him to attain the status of high school graduate when he successfully obtained his GED and high school diploma, an accomplishment that he took great pleasure from.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; a past member of the Las Animas Jaycees, where he served a term as the Club President; and he loved meeting up with his many friends at the Senior Center. Frank loved bowling, finding treasures at garage sales, crossword puzzles, and yard work. He first met Fedelina in his late teens when she moved to Las Animas from New Mexico. They married and built a life and home together, side by side for 51 years. They enjoyed working at church bazaars together and attending the many athletic events their children participated in, a practice he continued for his grandchildren, always with a Pepsi in hand! He will surely be missed by his family and all who knew him. He certainly stands with his Lord and Savior alongside his beloved wife watching over the family he loves. The knowledge he left us with and his words of encouragement will always be treasured.

Frank is survived by sons, Joseph (Sarah) of Las Animas, Frank Jr. of Indiana, James (Susette) of Elizabeth, CO; a daughter, Frances Skiles of Las Animas; one sister, Mary (Angel) Melendez also of Las Animas; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fedelina (Roybal) Frausto; parents, Espiridion and Gregoria Frausto; and seven siblings.

Due to current pandemic issues, cremation and a Catholic Blessing of his ashes will take place. A Mass of Christian Burial and graveside services will be held at a later date.
