Reed Selected as New Prowers County Coroner

Reed Taking Oath from Judge Stan Brinkley. Heather Reed, far Left

Dave Reed, a former officer with the Lamar Police Department, was selected by the Prowers County Commissioners to become the county’s new coroner. Reed, with his wife Heather looking on, took his oath of office from Judge Stan Brinkley Tuesday afternoon, August 20th,  at the Prowers County Courthouse.

“We had eight applicants for the position,” said Commissioner Ron Cook. “Actually we had eight very good applicants all across the board,” added Commissioner Tom Grasmick a few minutes before the swearing-in ceremony.

The commissioners began a search for a replacement following the death this past May of Joe Giadone, who had held the coroner’s position for 36 years, one of the few elected positions in the county. Reed will serve out the unexpired portion of Giadone’s term, about three years before deciding if he will run for another term.

Reed is no stranger to Lamar having moved here in 1999 where he served in law enforcement for the City of Lamar for 14 years. “I was with the Prowers County Road and Bridge Department prior to that and I became a probation officer for the county in 2017.  I feel my experience in law enforcement and my studies in criminal justice qualified me for the position.”

He will begin his role as Prowers County Coroner on the first of September.
