Big Timbers Museum Plans End of Summer Events

New Historical Kiosks

 

 

The Big Timbers Museum in Prowers County has an active calendar for September. Kathleen Scranton, Museum Curator, told the Prowers County Commissioners, the Fort William Bent Chapter of the NSDAR will have a photo opportunity and mini dedication for their group on Saturday, September 7th.  The kiosks for the Santa Fe Trail Scenic By-Way, interpretive panels were completed by the Prowers County Historic Society and the NSDAR has completed the Monument/Pedestal/Plaque display.

The Annual Night at the Museum will be held Thursday, September 12th from 5pm to 7pm with tickets at $7.50 per person or $20 per family.  A meal will be provided along with entertainment by Tom Proctor featuring music and a demonstration of making arrowheads.  Another dedication ceremony by the NSDAR will be performed.

The group, Order of the Indian Wars will tour the museum on Saturday, September 14th with about 80 visitors expected.

The Prowers County Historical Society will present a program and slide presentation by Tom Betz. “Swift Justice – the Fleagle Gang Trials in Lamar” will be presented at the Shore Arts Center on Saturday, September 21ar at 3pm, marking the 90th anniversary of the first Fleagle Trial, held at the newly constructed Prowers County Courthouse in 1929.

Scranton said the museum has had 981 visitors through July 31st of this year and 2,244 visits were recorded in 2018.  The museum will observe winter hours beginning Sunday, September 1st through May 31st of 2020.  Visiting times will be from 1pm to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
