Two Injured in Stolen Car Crash in Baca County

On Sunday, July 14, 2019 at approximately 05:00 hours, an accident occurred on Baca County Road 24.6 approximately 170’ north of 13th Ave. in Baca County Colorado.

A stolen red 2006 Pontiac G6, driven by a 16 year old juvenile, along with a 16 year old juvenile passenger was traveling north bound on Baca County Road 24.6 just west of Springfield. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed as it crossed the railroad tracks and lost control. The vehicle veered off the road into the west borrow ditch, overcorrected and re-entered the road beginning a counter clockwise rotation. The vehicle then overturned 2 ½ times, coming to rest on its roof facing west.

Both driver and passenger walked away from the scene and later transported by family members to Southeast Colorado Hospital. The driver was flown via flight for life to Swedish Medical Center with serious non-life threatening injuries and the passenger was treated and released with moderate injuries.

Neither occupant were wearing seatbelts during the crash. Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be causal factors in the crash.
