Lamar City Sales Tax Revenue Inches Down

The City of Lamar Sales and Use Taxes collected for May, 2019 indicated a downward turn for revenues for the city for that month. City Sales Tax was off 2.5% for a drop of $7,455 comparing $297,846 in 2018 to the current figures of $290,391.  Total Sales and Use Tax collections were down 2.81% for that period for a loss of $8,996 against $320,197 in collections for 2018 compared to $311,201 for May, 2019.

Year-to-Date revenues were also off with City Sales Tax down 4.46% for a drop of $79,321 comparing 2018 revenues of $1,779,831 to $1,700,510 for 2019. Total Sales and Use Tax collections were off 7.34% for a drop of $147,748, year to date with collections at $2,013,212 for 2018 against $1,865,464 for 2019.

Five of the twelve retail sales categories took a hit, showing a decrease between 2018 to 2019, again indicated by the drop in Building Material sales as well as All Business/Electricity. C Stores and Gas Sales were also lower by a considerable margin.
