Letter to the Editor: 9/11 Memorial Contributions

We would like to thank the crew from the Men’s Study of the Lamar Christian Church and Big R of Lamar for their hard work in constructing the two new Picnic Structures at the 9/11 Memorial. These covered picnic tables will provide shaded seating for many visitors to the 9/11 Memorial and the Big Timbers Museum. We specifically planned for enough seating for an entire busload of area students to enjoy a picnic lunch during an educational outing to the 9/11 Memorial and Big Timber Museum.
I have been truly amazed by the generosity of our community. The following businesses, organizations, and individuals either donated financially, labor or in-kind support for these covered picnic structures: Lamar Christian Church, Camp & Currell Construction, Lamar and Wiley Lions Clubs, Lamar BMS, Big R, Ryder Metal, Pueblo Home Depot, and Phil Quattlebaum. Albert Moreno from the 9/11 Committee had picked up the lumber and even pre-cut it to length so that everything went smoothly.
We hope that everyone has taken time to notice the Tri-State 9/11 Memorial on the curve on Highways 50/287 that area residents know as “the KLMR Corner.” We especially want to thank the Lamar Elks Lodge for the beautiful 30’ Flag Pole proudly flying our American Flag at the 9/11 Memorial that honors all of our First Responders and Military, past and present.
Thank you!
Doug Harbour, 9-11 Tribute Foundation
