McClave Woman Dies in Highway 50 Accident

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 50 near Prowers County Road 1, in Prowers County.  A 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 20-year-old Lesly Chacon, of McClave, was westbound on Highway 50.

Ms. Chacon drifted out of the lane and the right side of the vehicle collided with a steel guardrail. Ms. Chacon steered to the left in an attempt to return to the westbound lane.

A short distance later, Ms. Chacon steered sharply to the right, causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise. The Trailblazer traveled off the right (north) side of the road and started rolling over.

During the rollover the Trailblazer collided with a barbed wire fence and traveled into a grassy field. Ms. Chacon was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Chacon suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Prowers County Deputy Coroner.

Ms. Chacon’s next of kin have been notified.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drug use was a factor in the crash.
