Lamar Sales Tax Revenue Staying the Course for Gains

 

 

While the Lamar City July Sales and Use Tax collected in August were up a fraction of a percent, the year to date figures continued to show a healthy gain for that period.

City Sales Tax was up 0.27% for a slim gain over last year of $758.94 with 2017 totals at $282,334.72 compared to 2018 of $283,093.66. Use Tax was up $281.17 and Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 0.28% for $860.04.  Total Sales and Use Tax was $311,971.38 for 2017 and 2018 posted $312,831.42.

Year to Date figures showed a 6.71% gain for City Sales Tax at $149,539.05 for 2017 with totals at $2,229,738.46 for that year and $2,379,277.52 for 2018. Use Tax collections were up 37.88% for an increase of $72,284.39.  Collections for 2017 were $190,817.48 compared to 2018 at $263,101.87.  Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 9.26%.  That was a gain of $225,620.43 over last year with 2017 at $2,436,314.50 and 2018 at $2,661,934.93.

Four areas in the 12 retail sales categories posted a healthy tax increase over a three year span, from 2016 to 2018. This was in Building Materials, C Stores and Gas purchases, All Business and Electricity and Other Retail/All Other categories.
