Vanessa Marta, a sophomore from Lamar High School, was among the 110 students from across Colorado to participate in the Colorado All State Band held at University of Northern Colorado earlier this month. More than 900 students auditioned for the prestigious group. Vanessa plays clarinet.
“I was really nervous, but I’m glad I went ahead and auditioned”, said Vanessa. In fact, members of the band are required to pass through two separate auditions, one in early December and another on the first day of the three-day event. Although everyone at the event had to pass the initial audition, students who cannot demonstrate that they are prepared for the concert are sent home after the second audition.
In addition to playing clarinet in the Lamar High School Band, Vanessa also sings soprano in the LHS Noteables and plays guitar.
“All State is a great honor for any musician,” said LHS Band Director Bob Seay. “That Vanessa was able to accomplish this as a sophomore is especially impressive.”
Vanessa is already preparing for her next audition.
