A celebration of life for longtime Hiawatha, Kansas resident, Robert A. Mayhew will be held at a later date.
Robert was born on June 30, 1940 in Lamar, Colorado to Arthur R. and Hazel Moss Mayhew and passed away on November 2, 2017 at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hiawatha, Kansas with his sister and brother-in-law by his side.
Bob graduated from Lamar High School before serving as an aircraft mechanic for 4 years in the US Air Force and 2 years in the US Navy. After his military service Bob returned to Lamar and worked at an area alfalfa mill and Cross Hydraulics before becoming a delivery driver for Marxmaster bakery for many years. In 1990 he moved to Grand Canyon, AZ where he worked in the warehouse and delivery department of the Fred Harvey/Fonterra CO for 15 years. Bob retired to Mercier, Kansas to be near his younger sister. He was an avid HO gauge model railroader, enjoyed painting with oils and water colors, playing acoustic guitar, watching the Denver Broncos, Indy and F1 auto racing and riding his motorcycle.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Betty McGrath.
He is survived by his sisters, Donna Eckert and Sharon Mayhew Schuetz (David), three nieces, three nephews, fourteen great nieces and nephews and twelve great-great nieces and nephews. Bob was quite a man and loved spending time with family.
