Lodging Panel Seeking New Membership

There were no new applications for funding on the Prowers County Lodging Tax Panel for their monthly meeting on November 14th. Discussion did focus on replacement members as Panel President, Pat Palmer, submitted his resignation from the board which will be effective at the end of this year. Palmer, who has been president for several years, used his letter to thank the county and past and present members for their dedication to help promote events in Prowers County over the years.
There will be at least three open positions on the Panel at that point. One member resigned several months ago and another letter of resignation is expected with the end of that person’s term. Palmer’s letter will bring the vacancies up to three persons. Appointments are made by the Prowers County Commissioners and letter of interest will be considered by them. One criteria is that the applicant must have a profession or interests that are related to tourist-related activities in Prowers County.
A phone poll was ratified by the Panel to fund two rodeo applications from Danielle Wollert if and when funds became available. One was for $6,000 which will be applied to the Southeast Colorado All Stars Rodeo on April 20-22 and the other was for $15,000 for the Colorado Junior Rodeo Association finals for July of 2018-2020.
The Panel did see a large payment from the state, $35,944, for the third quarter of the year, which allows for a comfort zone of $12,722 over the fiscal budget, according to Administrative Assistant, Carla Scranton. One $3,000 request was funded for inclusion of Prowers County in the Canyons and Plains SE Colorado Life magazine which had been tabled from the previous month. It was noted that because the Lodging Panel uses the Prowers Economic Prosperity offices at the Rodeway Cow Palace Inn, it too will move once the PEP board has found a new location. The Lodging Panel will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, December 19th at 4pm.
