Lamar Sales Tax Shows End of Summer Gain

City of Lamar sales taxes, collected in August, showed a 12.61% increase for a gain of $32,228 over last year at this time, posting revenues of $287,825 for 2017 against $255,597 for 2016. Total Sales and Use Tax collections for the same period were up 8.68% for a jump of $24,777 in revenues. Collections in 2016 were $285,453 compared to the same time period in 2017 of $310,231.
Year to Date collections also showed an increase, but on a lesser scale with City of Lamar sales taxes up 1.87% for a gain of $46,100. Total collections for the year are $2,517,564 compared to the same period last year of $2,471,463. Total Sale and Use Tax collections, YTD, were up 0.27% for a modest gain of $7,499. 2016 collections were $2,739,047 compared to this year for $2,746,546.
The 12 retail trades, sales tax categories, show a mix of losses and gains over a three-year comparison period.
