Congressman Campaigns in Lamar for Governor Seat

Jared Polis

Congressman Jared Polis made a visit to Lamar Sunday, September 3, the final leg of a whirlwind tour before Congress reconvenes in Washington on Tuesday. He spent the morning walking in the Colorado State Fair parade, then drove to the home of Bob and Ginger Seay in Lamar for a ‘meet and greet’ house party. Next stop would be an evening meeting with Alamosa Democrats before heading home to Boulder.

Despite it being a holiday weekend, the meeting was well-attended. Polis chatted informally with the guests one-on-one, then gave a short talk about his background, accomplishments in office so far, and goals for the future.

Polis is running for the open seat for Governor of Colorado in 2018. He was elected to Congress (CD-2) in 2008, but feels that with the challenges facing our state in the coming years, he can do more good for the citizens of Colorado from the governor’s office.

One of his main passions is education. After multiple successes in the business world, in 2000 he branched out and created a foundation that started up alternative schools as well as innovative programs for helping both teachers and students. He also began his political career by running for the State Board of Education. In Congress, Jared has shown himself to be a dedicated public servant who knows how to get things done He is well known for his willingness to ‘cross the aisle’ and use a bi-partisan attitude to achieve success.

Besides education, other areas Polis plans to focus on as Governor are increasing Colorado’s renewable energy production and boosting the economy through helping the business sector, from employees on up, thrive and grow.
