Events and Highlights for the 2017 Sand and Sage Fair

This year’s theme, selected by the fair board is, “116 Years of Boots, Buckles, and Barrels of Fun.”
The gates to the arena and beer garden open at 6pm on Saturday, August 5th for the concert by Clare Dunn and Corey White, with White on stage at 6pm, followed by Dunn. Clare Dunn is a local-raised, southeast Colorado native who grew up in Two Buttes and has become one of the rising stars of the Nashville circuit with national recognition for her singing style and lyric writing skills.
Other attractions through the week include:
Sunday, August 6th, at 6pm, Vaqueros Gymkhana
Tuesday, August 8, for Open Team Roping at 5pm as well as Family Night and the 5:30pm Royalty Contest followed by the annual, 6pm-ping pong ball drop. New this year is the Dutch Oven Cookers Exhibition from 2pm to 6pm in Elmer’s Garden.
Wednesday, August 9th features kid’s day games from 9 to noon and kid’s rides from 11 to 3pm, noon free kid lunch. (12 and Under)
Thursday, August 10, Calcutta at 5pm and the beer garden opens from 5pm until midnight. The Ranch Rodeo follows the Calcutta with the 5pm ham, bean and cornbread dinner, a display by the Santa Fe Cookers in Elmer’s Garden will start in the early afternoon.
Friday, August 11, irrigation tube setting at 10am, champion showman contest at 10am, beef bbq at 6pm, Tiny Toy Showmanship at 6:30pm, Ranch Bronco Calcutta at 7:30pm and PRCA Rodeo at 8pm…beer garden at 5pm.
Saturday, August 12, the traditional parade begins at 10am down 6th Street, to West Cedar Street and up to 9th Street and into the fairgrounds. This will be followed by the 1pm, Jr Livestock Sale, beef bbq at 6pm, 4h/FFA Parade of Champions at 7pm and at 8pm, PRCA Rodeo and beer garden.
