AVWPE, the premier and widely respected community band in Southeastern Colorado, celebrates it’s 19th season in 2017-2018.  To further celebrate the current concert season, a special CONCERT OF HONOR will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Lamar High School auditorium beginning at 7pm.  This concert will honor the memory of lifelong arts patron, Ruthie Esgar, and the exceptional creative impact she leaves behind.  This concert will also honor Dr. Howard Hobbs for his lifetime of service in the arts, teaching, and humanitarian work.  We welcome all season ticket holders of the Southeast Colorado Concert Association, honorary family members, and friends and our entire community to attend this special CONCERT OF HONOR.  The concert is entirely free and proudly supported by The Southeast Colorado Concert Association, AVWPE Inc., and High Plains Public Radio.

The concert band, directed by David Northrup, will lead you on an exciting journey to the mesas, valleys, and canyons of the wild, wild west!  For the first time in almost 20 years, this concert band will delight our audience with spirited arrangements including “The Cowboys”, “Rawhide” and “The Green Leaves of Summer” arranged by David Northrup and more.  Wear your boots and hat and enjoy!

The Main Street Ringers, directed by Christi Ludwig & Kathleen La Cost, will feature a variety of songs including selections recently performed at the Southern Colorado Handbell Festival in Colorado Springs.  Our audience will especially enjoy watching the performance of these ringers while listening to this beautiful three octave bell choir.

Refreshments will be served during a brief intermission by staff and friends of High Plains Public Radio.

The Valley Jazz Orchestra, directed by Greg Ludwig, will stir your musical memories with hits from Stevie Wonder,  Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Billy Joel and Kansas.  Join us for this tribute to classic rock and remember some of your old favorites played in big band style!
