City Sales Tax Shows Slight Monthly Drop

Sales tax for the City of Lamar dropped slightly for the October 2016 sales which were collected in November. City Sales Tax was off 3.08% for a decline of $7,941.41 putting 2016 collections for the month at $249,570.96 compared to 2015 figures of $257,512.37.  Total Sales and Use Tax collections came in for the month, down 1.02% for a drop of $2,791.44, putting 2016 collections at $270,314.20 compared to the previous year of $273,105.64.

Year to Date collections for City Sales tax was up 1.48% for a gain of $43,927.35. 2015 figures were at $2,964,860.85 compared to $3,008,788.20 for 2016.  Year to Date City and Use Tax collections were up 3.77% for a gain of $120,562.56.  Year to Date for 2016 was at $3,320,329.40 while the collections for 2015 were at $3,199,766.84.

The 12 retail trades categories showed an increase for sales tax revenue collected for the past three years in almost every category save for manufacturing, apparel and a minor drop in auto parts:
