City Sales Tax Remains Healthy as Year Winds Down

September City Sales Tax collected in October grew 3.77% for a $10,447 increase over the previous year, putting monthly collections for 2016 at $287,753 compared to 2015 at $277,306. Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 6.21% for a dollar gain of $18,168. Total collections for September 2016 were $310,968, up from last year’s figures of $292,799.
Year to Date Collections, from January to October, showed a 4.21% increase. That translates to a gain of $123,354 for the year. Total Collections for 2015 were at $2,926,661 compared to the current year of collections at $3,050,015.
Retail Trades and services are broken into twelve categories for tax collections. The three year comparison report shows significant gains in restaurants, motels, grocery stores as well as C Stores; auto parts and apparel showed a decrease for the same period.
