Ramon and Martina Pena were honored as the Grand Marshalls of the annual Fiesta de Colores parade, held in Granada on Saturday, September 17th.

This marks the third year for the Fiesta observance in Granada, held the third weekend in September. The Fiesta celebrates and history and culture of the area residents Mexican heritage.  The six members of the Fiesta Club are:  Jerry Ibarra, President, Jesse Solorzano, Vice-President, Helen Ibarra, Dee Melgosa, Roy Stegman and Daniel Silva.  The committee is a proud donor of a $1,000 scholarship each year to a senior from Granada High School.

The recipients this year are Queen, Angela Marie Martinez-$1,000 and first runner-up, Stajah McGee and $500; second runner-up was Yolanda Rodriguez & $300. Princess was Victoria Mia Cano and $1,000; first runner-up, Nevaeh Morales & $500 and second runner-up, Jaylynn Marie Estrada and $300.  Chela Marquez did the honors as emcee for the queen and princess coronation.

The queen and princess are determined by the amount of raffle ticket sales and the Committee commends the effort done by these young ladies. Past royalty took part in the parade including Haven Quintana, 2015 Queen and Rhye Ann Sanchez, 2015 Fiesta Princess.

Numerous activities filled the afternoon at the Granada Town Park. Jerry Ibarra and Chris DeLeon won first place and $150 in the horseshoe tournament; Tuee Delarosa and Raymond Sandoval finished second for $100 and Kenny Schafer and Dakota Baker placed third for $50.  The raffle winners were:  Disco to Sandie Barele; beef bundle to Olivia Silvas; push lawn mower to Jean Bezona; Bronco canopy tent to Monica Tamayo, $200 cash to Emry Neugebauer; men’s bike to Jesse Solorzano and lady’s bike to Jerene DeBono.

A dance completed the Fiesta with Jorge Levya y Sus Angles Del Norte with a good time for everyone attending. Every year the event seems to grow in ideas and hopefully the Fiesta will continue to be a fun-filled event.  The Committee thanks everyone who participated and God Bless you all.
