Funeral services for former Las Animas Business Man Frank Huddleston will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Friends Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Pastor Diane Hutson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery.
William Franklin Huddleston, affectionately known as Frank, was born on June 6, 1930 in Ordway, CO to William Dan and Edith Estes (Wineager) Huddleston. He passed away on August 1, 2016 at the Bent County Health Care Center in Las Animas, CO at the age of 86.
Frank was the second oldest of seven children. His family made their income through farming and his father was a truck and bus driver as well as a trader to help make ends meet for the family. Frank grew up in Lincoln county and La Junta. He attended the “Pride Prairie School” near Punkin Center, and later moved to La Junta where he then graduated from high school. During his junior year he met a freshman, Wyanona Patterson. They were married in 1950. After graduation, Frank joined the Marines, which he remembered as one of the best times of his life. He is a Korean War Veteran. After Frank was discharged from the Marine Corp in 1954, he and Wyanona moved to Las Animas. Frank and Wyanona were blessed with two children, Larry and Brenda.
Frank and Wyanona ran Patterson Oil and then started Frank’s L.P. which they operated for 34 years. They also sold Kawasaki motorcycles for over 30 years. Frank’s free time was usually spent restoring tractors and riding motorcycles. They attended the Friends Church in Las Animas.
Frank is survived by his wife, Wyanona Huddleston of Las Animas, CO; grandchildren, Janae (Paul) Carstensen of Omaha, NE, Amy Huddleston of Jacksonville, FL, Zach Huddleston of Los Angeles, CA, and Brendan Birks of Omaha, NE; adopted son, Jon (Sharla) Montoya of Lamar, CO; daughter-in-law, Mary Huddleston of Seminole, FL; siblings, Edwin Huddleston, Wanda Scott, and Daniel Huddleston all of OK; 3 great grandchildren, Leah, Christian and Caleigh; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Larry and Brenda; siblings, Luella Lee Strandburg, Darrell Huddleston, and Ronnie Huddleston; in-laws, Walter and Irene Patterson; and son-in-law, Kely Birks.
