Wines have been gaining in popularity over the years. But we can be faced with an array of wine choices ranging from white to red to rose or from a Grigio to Beaujolais to a Sauvignon Blanc.  Most young wine drinkers got their start from Boone’s or Ripple and hopefully graduated to more sophisticated tastes.   The Lamar Chamber of Commerce offered a wine tasting evening Friday, June 24th at the Lamar Eagles Lodge which brought the experienced or novice wine drinker together with several local vendors for an evening which combined a few tasting lessons in a social atmosphere which combined conversation, companionship, music and snacks.

Local vendors included A & B Liquor, Olive Street Station, Corner Liquor, The Abbey Winery, Smokin’ Willies and Rivals. Each table had several presenters who offered a range of wine selections in samples small enough, which allowed someone a variety of tastes without too much of the grape going to their heads.  There was plenty of cheese and crackers at each table as well as some different offerings such as chicken tenders from Rivals and Smokin’ Willies had several chips and dips on their table as well as some barbecue samples.  One outstanding feature of the evening was the multi-layered cake fashioned by Jen Delarosa into a two foot tall wine cask.

DJ Vic Coberly provided music indoors while the local band, JUDI set up their equipment for the dance in the outdoor garden to the rear of the Eagles Aerie. A few rain drops fell at the start of the evening, but it wasn’t enough to turn away the gathering.  The two prizes for the night were presented to Holly Burton with the door prize and Bob DeLancey won the wine basket; the Chair Basket was won by Crissy Stegman.  Chamber President, Vickie Dykes, said she was happy with the turnout and plans for another event, and additional vendors will be planned for a future date.
