Lamar Lions Club’s flag project at Prowers County Courthouse nearing completion as lighting and brick installation are coming soon

The large, beautiful American flag that proudly waves from the west lawn of the Prowers County Courthouse has served as a focal point in downtown Lamar, easily seen by all who travel on Main Street.  It will be enhanced soon by the remaining portion of the project.  Though the flagpole was completed several months ago and the flag had its dedication ceremony in September, Lions Club and fundraising committee members have been asked why the flag is not lit at night and why the memorial bricks have not been installed.  The project, the brainchild of the Lamar Lions Club and paid for by local donations, will be getting the long-awaited lighting and bricks as quickly as possible.  The lights will be recessed into a new concrete pad at the base of the flagpole and the 270-plus memorial bricks that have been purchased will be installed as part of the final phase of the project.  The committee wanted the public to know that the lights and bricks haven’t been forgotten, and that the project is indeed moving forward.  The inscribed bricks are scheduled to arrive within the next week or so and the concrete and lights will be installed as soon as everything is ready and the weather cooperates.  They thank the community for their ongoing support and patience as the project nears completion.
