A Private Family Service will be held for Las Animas, Colorado resident, Marjorie Richards. Interment will take place at 1:45 p.m. at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Marjorie Richards was born on October 2, 1921 to Norris and Anna Dale (Leach) Lyman. She passed away on December 27, 2020 at the Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 99.
Marjorie moved to Las Animas with her family in 1929 where she later graduated from high school. Marjorie was united in marriage to Frank Richards on July 4, 1942. Together they owned and operated Bent County Motors until closing in 1979 due to Frank’s illness. Marjorie was a member of the Bent County Economic Development Foundation, Woman’s Civic Club, a past director at the First National Bank, and was instrumental as a director of the Las Animas/Bent County Chamber of Commerce. She played the organ and piano all her life and shared this talent by playing for church services at the First Church of God and for many funerals over the years. Marjorie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Las Animas and was also a past deacon and elder. She was named Bent County Citizen of the Year in 1991 for outstanding service to her community.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Barbara A. Day of McClave, Colorado, Judy A. Davis of Denton, Texas, and Janet E. Horber of Las Animas, Colorado; stepson, Richard E. Richards of Arvada, Colorado; brother Vanda (Janet) Lyman of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Norris and Anna Dale; husband, Frank O. Richards; siblings, Eunice Syring, Richard Lyman, and Betty Price; sons-in-law, Kenny Slack, Bill Day, Bill Davis, and John T. Horber III.
