CSP Investigates Two Vehicle Accident in Bent County, Lamar Residents Injured

On Thursday, November 21, 2019 at approximately 17:31 pm, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle unknown injury crash that occurred at the intersection of Colorado Highway 50 and Bent County Road 35, approximately 9 miles west of Lamar.
A 2005 Ford F-150, driven by 29 year old Blasé Wertin of Lamar, CO, was northbound on Bent County Road 35. A 2001 Buick Century, driven by 57 year old Margarita Esquivel of Lamar, CO., was eastbound on Colorado 50, approaching Bent County Road 35. The Ford F-150 failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Colorado 50 and Bent County Road 35. The Ford F-150 was struck by the Buick Century. The Ford F-150 came to rest off the north side of the Colorado 50, and the Buick Century came to rest on the roadway.
The driver, Margarita Esquivel, and the passenger, 59 year old Martha Esquivel of Lamar, CO, of the Buick Century sustained injuries and were transported to Prowers Medical Center. Both parties were also unrestrained at the time of the crash.
Alcohol is being considered as possible factors in the crash.
