William Medina…September 17, 1943 – October 1, 2019

 

Mass of Christian Burial for Las Animas, Colorado resident, Bill Medina will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Father Henry Wertin officiating. Rosary will be held prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Cremation will take place following the service and inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Fort Lyon National Cemetery with military honors provided by the local VFW and American Legion Post.

William Joseph Medina, known to most as Bill, was born on September 17, 1943 in La Junta, Colorado to Herman Sr. and Mildred (Sainz) Medina. He passed away at his home on October 1, 2019 at the age of 76.

Bill attended Las Animas schools until enlisting in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge he returned to Las Animas to work at Fort Lyon as a Dietary Manager.  He retired after 38 years.  To keep busy after retirement, Bill had several business ventures.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the VFW.  Bill was a sports fanatic and a loyal fan of the Rockies and Broncos.

Bill is survived by his wife, Henrietta Medina of the home; B. Jay (Julie) Medina of La Junta, Colorado; two grandsons, Austin and Tryston Medina; siblings, Irene Thomas, Georgia Ramon, Larry Medina, and Elizabeth (David) Trujillo; brother-in-law, Tony Mondragon; many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Mildred Medina; sister, Helen Mondragon; brother, Diddo Medina; brother-in-law, Jerry Thomas; nephews, Leonard Medina, Mike Mondragon; niece, Janet Burkepile; and great nephew, Mario Mondragon.
